EU to maintain trade ties with Iran even US exits JCPOA

TEHRAN, May 04 (MNA) – According to the informed sources, European powers will present their own plan for JCPOA to Washington next week but at same time, they have begun an effort to maintain trade and business relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran if the United States exits the JCPOA.

The decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is almost finalized but Germany, France and UK are trying to take a tougher stance against Iran in order to keep the United States in the JCPOA.

A senior diplomat from Europe pointed to a weeklong time left until Trump’s decision for suspending nuclear sanctions against Iran and said, “I do not think there is a reason to be too optimistic.”

The probable agreement between Europe and US, which does not include other parties including China, Russia and Iran, seeks to reassure US President Trump that Europe will make its utmost effort to control Tehran’s missile program, influence of Iran in Syria and Yemen and provisions related to monitor and supervise Iranian nuclear sites, etc.

Given the above issue, Germany, UK and France have emphasized that they will remain in this agreement in case of US withdrawal from JCPOA and will try to maintain their trade and business relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran fully.

A landmark nuclear deal was inked between Iran and six world's major powers in mid-July 2015 in exchange for restricting Iran's nuclear ambition.
